  • "This is more than a gym, its a community of like minded and great people with the same goal in mind, and that's to better ourselves and each other. Carl is more than a fantastic coach, he is also a great mentor. He takes the time to get to know each member of our team and our personal goals then pushes you and motivates you to get there."

  • "This started off as a simple thank you letter. This week I received a favorable annual physical report from my doctor relative to my bone density test. I attribute this to CrossFit RYS. My results were phenomenal. Basically, I have gone from a negative bone density percentage to a positive percentage. However, it would be remiss of me if I did not share my CrossFit journey.

I started Cross fit in late May- early June 2017. For some reason when you hit that 50 year old milestone, we tend to want to embark on new and exciting ventures . I have worked at the same job for over 25 years as an Underwriter where the most exercise we get is socializing. There were short memberships at a few gyms but nothing too physical and it eventually became boring.

Last year I was informed by my doctor that I was a high risk candidate for osteoporosis due to low bone density – OMG!!! Old people disease. My doctor stated that with some dietary modifications , vitamin supplements and exercise I could improve my bone density; but I would still have to take some form of prescribed medication in order to prevent the disease.

Well, my brother had been attending CrossFit RYS and raved about it. So, I decided to check it out. My first day in class I thought Oops, wrong move; not for me; are you kidding!! Not only was I weak but I was also slow and stiff. I could hardly do a push up or squat and running 200 meters was a challenge. My first workout class ended in a puddle of sweat and misery – despite the modifications. I sat on the floor after class and thought this is my first and last class. After class, I spoke with Coach Carl who informed me that it would take time and that I would get stronger over time. He stated that I needed to attend class at least three times a week to see results. I left class and sat in my car for 10 minutes (basically unable to use my legs) but I decided that I needed CrossFit. I returned a few days later and attended the 5:00 AM class. I will be honest, when I walked in to the “Box” I wanted to walk out – Everyone was wearing t-shirts and shorts and looked as if they were professional athletes. But I was intrigued- wondering what did they look like when they started? I was extremely encouraged by the way the 5:00 AM Class encouraged me. You got this Vanessa!!! Don’t stop!!! Great job!!! Just keep moving!!! - Although I left that class with every muscle in my body aching, I realized I needed this – my body needed this. This was confirmed when I went to the doctor a few weeks later for severe stomach pains and was told by my doctor that the pain was from me “waking up” muscles that I had not used in years. # HOLLOW ROCKS

That was six or seven months ago. Today I feel stronger and healthier. I sleep better and have more energy. As I stated earlier, at my most recent annual exam my PCP/doctor was amazed (really amazed) at the results of my tests. Not only did my bone density percentage increase significantly but I will not have to take any medications. In her words “ keep doing what you are doing”. Two weeks ago I completed my first mile run – and that was after rowing a mile. For me that was a major accomplishment and a proud moment in my life.

Thanks Coach Carl!!! I appreciate you for not giving up on me. I still have a ways to go on this CrossFit journey, but I am better fit and prepared for the journey.

    Thanks Again
