  • "This is more than a gym, its a community of like minded and great people with the same goal in mind, and that's to better ourselves and each other. Carl is more than a fantastic coach, he is also a great mentor. He takes the time to get to know each member of our team and our personal goals then pushes you and motivates you to get there."

  • "This started off as a simple thank you letter. This week I received a favorable annual physical report from my doctor relative to my bone density test. I attribute this to CrossFit RYS. My results were phenomenal. Basically, I have gone from a negative bone density percentage to a positive percentage. However, it would be remiss of me if I did not share my CrossFit journey.

I started Cross fit in late May- early June 2017. For some reason when you hit that 50 year old milestone, we tend to want to embark on new and exciting ventures . I have worked at the same job for over 25 years as an Underwriter where the most exercise we get is socializing. There were short memberships at a few gyms but nothing too physical and it eventually became boring.

Last year I was informed by my doctor that I was a high risk candidate for osteoporosis due to low bone density – OMG!!! Old people disease. My doctor stated that with some dietary modifications , vitamin supplements and exercise I could improve my bone density; but I would still have to take some form of prescribed medication in order to prevent the disease.

Well, my brother had been attending CrossFit RYS and raved about it. So, I decided to check it out. My first day in class I thought Oops, wrong move; not for me; are you kidding!! Not only was I weak but I was also slow and stiff. I could hardly do a push up or squat and running 200 meters was a challenge. My first workout class ended in a puddle of sweat and misery – despite the modifications. I sat on the floor after class and thought this is my first and last class. After class, I spoke with Coach Carl who informed me that it would take time and that I would get stronger over time. He stated that I needed to attend class at least three times a week to see results. I left class and sat in my car for 10 minutes (basically unable to use my legs) but I decided that I needed CrossFit. I returned a few days later and attended the 5:00 AM class. I will be honest, when I walked in to the “Box” I wanted to walk out – Everyone was wearing t-shirts and shorts and looked as if they were professional athletes. But I was intrigued- wondering what did they look like when they started? I was extremely encouraged by the way the 5:00 AM Class encouraged me. You got this Vanessa!!! Don’t stop!!! Great job!!! Just keep moving!!! - Although I left that class with every muscle in my body aching, I realized I needed this – my body needed this. This was confirmed when I went to the doctor a few weeks later for severe stomach pains and was told by my doctor that the pain was from me “waking up” muscles that I had not used in years. # HOLLOW ROCKS

That was six or seven months ago. Today I feel stronger and healthier. I sleep better and have more energy. As I stated earlier, at my most recent annual exam my PCP/doctor was amazed (really amazed) at the results of my tests. Not only did my bone density percentage increase significantly but I will not have to take any medications. In her words “ keep doing what you are doing”. Two weeks ago I completed my first mile run – and that was after rowing a mile. For me that was a major accomplishment and a proud moment in my life.

Thanks Coach Carl!!! I appreciate you for not giving up on me. I still have a ways to go on this CrossFit journey, but I am better fit and prepared for the journey.

    Thanks Again

  • I just wanted to thank Crossfit RYS for both the positive and profound impact it has had on my life. Since joining Crossfit over a year ago, I have noticed significant changes in both my physical health and physique. Over the course of my life, I would stay sick throughout the winter with sinus/respiratory infections and since joining Crossfit RYS....I cannot remember even getting sick once this winter. I attribute that to the ongoing exercise that I am consistently getting at Crossfit RYS. Also, I have steadily increased muscle mass since joining the box and this is despite going through a spine surgery about half a year after joining. Coach Carl and my fellow athletes would encourage me, as well as help me to scale what I needed to. I was able to still participate, even if it had to be in an alternative format to help meet my individual needs. Not only have I been able to stay in shape, but with Coach Carl always pushing me harder than I would push myself, I am in the best shape that I have ever been in my life. I do not measure this by weight, but instead by overall health. My muscle mass, flexibility and stamina have all increased tremendously. Last, but not least....I have been able to see positive relationships form through Crossfit RYS. These relationships have given me great joy and have allowed for all of us to grow as a Crossfit family. Life-long friendships forming between people from all walks of life with one common goal: FORGING ELITE FITNESS. This is why I believe in Crossfit RYS.

  • I cannot say enough good things about CrossFit RYS and Coach Carl. When I started I was in the depths of a deep depression, had never had a workout routine and was an exhausted mom with a full time job and no time for myself. I thought for sure that I would never be able to keep up with the daunting workouts but Carl proved me wrong. It doesn’t matter where you start out, Carl is going to work with your ability - scale back when you need it but most importantly, push you when you don’t think you have anymore left to give. Two months in and I have never felt better in my life. I wake up energized, I feel strong and I love that my daughters get to see me pushing myself and enjoying a fit lifestyle! I look forward to working out with Carl and the amazing people I’ve met through this box every single day!

  • CrossFit RYS has been more than I expected it would be. Coach Carl is very attentive to form so as to prevent injury and also to any slacking up so you're not going to get off easy LOL. I love it and the only thing I wish is I had more time to go.
